  • Class 12: Must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026 (two attempts in consecutive years allowed)

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each paper has multiple question types: Single Correct Choice, Multiple Correct Choice, Numerical Answer, and Match the List. The marking scheme differs for each type — partial marking applies for multiple correct questions. Both papers are mandatory.

What to Carry on Exam Day

Carry your JEE Advanced 2026 Admit Card (colour printout), the original photo ID used during registration, and a passport-size photograph. Do not carry any electronic devices — smartwatches, Bluetooth earphones, and mobile phones are all banned. IITs are strict — late entry is typically not allowed after Paper 1 starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I skip Paper 2 and only appear for Paper 1?

No. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are mandatory. If you are absent in either paper, your result will not be declared and you will not be eligible for IIT seat allotment.

Q: What if my name or photo is wrong on the admit card?

Report this to IIT Roorkee's JEE Advanced helpdesk immediately. On exam day, carry your original Aadhaar card as proof — invigilators have protocols to handle such cases.

Q: When does JoSAA counselling start for IIT admissions?

JoSAA counselling typically starts about 2–3 weeks after the JEE Advanced result (declared 1 June 2026). Eligible candidates register on josaa.nic.in for seat allotment.

Q: How many IIT seats are available through JEE Advanced 2026?

IITs have offered approximately 17,000–18,000 seats in total across all categories historically. Check josaa.nic.in for the exact seat matrix by institute and branch.

Q: I cleared JEE Main but forgot to register for JEE Advanced. What now?

Registrations closed on 5 May 2026. UPSC strictly does not allow late registration — you will have to wait for the next cycle (JEE Advanced 2027), provided you still have attempts remaining and meet the age criteria.
