JPSC Combined Civil Services Prelims 2026 — Exam City and Preparation Guide
Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has released Exam City Intimation for Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 (Advertisement No. 01/2026). JPSC Civil Services Prelims is the first stage in selecting Jharkhand Administrative Service (JAS), Jharkhand Police Service (JPS), and other Group A/B state services officers.
The Exam City Intimation is not your admit card — it tells you which city your exam centre will be in. Your actual admit card (with specific centre address, room, and roll number) will be released separately closer to the exam date. Check jpsc.gov.in regularly for the admit card release.
JPSC Prelims 2026 — Exam Pattern
JPSC Civil Services Prelims has two papers:
Paper 1 — General Studies (200 marks): Current affairs (national and Jharkhand), Indian history and culture, Indian and Jharkhand geography, polity and governance, economy, environment and ecology, science and technology. This is the merit-determining paper.
Paper 2 — CSAT (200 marks, qualifying only): Reading comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, basic numeracy. Minimum qualifying marks are 33% — below this, Paper 1 is not evaluated. CSAT is not ranked in merit, only Paper 1 marks count for Prelims cutoff.
Both papers are 2 hours each, MCQ format. Negative marking applies.
Exam Day Checklist
- JPSC Admit Card (colour print when released)
- Original Photo ID — Aadhar, Voter ID, or Passport
- 2 passport-size photographs
- Blue/Black pen (no pencil for answers, only pen is accepted in JPSC OMR sheets)
- No mobile phones or electronic devices
- Reach exam centre 60 minutes early — two-paper days have logistical delays at large JPSC venues
Jharkhand-Specific Preparation — What Sets Toppers Apart
JPSC Prelims Paper 1 consistently has 25–35% questions that are Jharkhand-specific: Jharkhand's tribal communities (Santhal, Munda, Ho, Oraon, Kharia), state formation history (Jharkhand Andolan), Jharkhand's mineral resources (India's largest coal, mica reserves), Jharkhand government schemes, and current events from Jharkhand politics and administration.
General GS preparation (NCERT + standard books) is necessary but not sufficient. Dedicated Jharkhand-focused study using JPSC-specific books (Spectrum Jharkhand GK, or state-focused publications) is what separates successful candidates from those who fall just short of the Prelims cutoff.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can candidates from other states appear for JPSC Civil Services?
Yes — JPSC Civil Services does not have a domicile restriction for Prelims and Mains examination. However, for local language paper and certain post-specific eligibility, Jharkhand background becomes important. Most successful JPSC candidates are Jharkhand residents with strong local knowledge. Check the specific advertisement for domicile requirements in post allocation.
Q: What is the selection process after Prelims?
JPSC Civil Services: Prelims (qualifying + screening) → Mains (8 papers — General Studies I-IV, Optional I-II, Hindi, Regional Language) → Personality Test (Interview). Mains is the primary merit determinant. The final merit includes Mains marks and interview marks, not Prelims marks.
