JSSC Excise Constable 2023 — Admit Card and Exam Guide

Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) has released the admit card for Excise Constable Competitive Examination 2023 (JECCE-2023). Excise Constable posts are under the Jharkhand Excise Department — responsible for controlling illegal liquor, enforcing excise laws, conducting raids, and supporting district excise officers.

This is a state-level Group C post in Jharkhand — offering job security, decent salary, and a meaningful enforcement role. Jharkhand domicile is mandatory for all JSSC excise constable positions.

Documents to Carry on Exam Day

  • JSSC Admit Card — download from jssc.nic.in. Colour print preferred; your photograph and roll number must be clearly visible.
  • Original Photo ID — Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving Licence. Name must match admit card exactly.
  • 2 passport-size photographs
  • No mobile phones, electronic watches, or calculators
  • Arrive 45–60 minutes before your shift time — JSSC venues have document checking queues

JSSC Excise Constable Exam Pattern

JSSC JECCE-2023 is a written competitive exam covering:

  • General Knowledge: Current affairs, Jharkhand history and geography, national polity, economy basics
  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology basics (Class 10 level)
  • Mathematics: Arithmetic — percentage, ratio, time-work, mensuration
  • Reasoning: Series, analogies, coding-decoding, logical deductions
  • Jharkhand-specific GK: Tribal communities, Jharkhand formation history, government schemes, Jharkhand geography (rivers, forests, minerals)

Questions are MCQ format. Jharkhand-specific GK typically carries significant weightage in JSSC exams — candidates who spend time on Jharkhand state knowledge consistently outperform those relying only on general GK books.

Physical Test After Written Exam

Candidates who clear the written exam go to a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). For excise constable, physical standards include: height (male: 160 cm minimum; female: 148 cm), chest (male: 79 cm / 84 cm expanded), and a running test (1.6 km for male). These standards are qualifying — pass or fail. Train for the physical test in parallel with written exam preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can non-Jharkhand candidates apply for JSSC Excise Constable?

No. JSSC recruitment is exclusively for Jharkhand state residents. You must have a valid Jharkhand domicile certificate. Candidates from neighbouring states (Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha) cannot apply, even if they've lived in Jharkhand for years, unless they have the official domicile document.

Q: What is the salary for Jharkhand Excise Constable?

Jharkhand Excise Constable is placed at Pay Level 3 (₹21,700 basic) under 7th Pay Commission. With DA, HRA (Jharkhand state rates), and other allowances, in-hand salary is approximately ₹32,000–₹38,000 per month. After confirmation and increments, this grows steadily.
