Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between UGC NET for Assistant Professor and JRF?

Both require clearing the same UGC NET exam. The JRF cut-off is higher than the Assistant Professor cut-off. JRF qualifiers also receive a monthly fellowship for PhD research. Assistant Professor qualification enables you to apply for faculty positions but does not come with a fellowship.

Q: Is there any age limit for UGC NET?

No age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility. For JRF, the upper age limit is 30 years (relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/female candidates) as of the date of the notification.

Q: Can I use NTA UGC NET score from this exam for other exams?

Yes. UGC NET score is valid for 3 years from the date of result for JRF activation. For Assistant Professor, there is no expiry — once qualified, the certificate is valid for life (subject to any regulatory changes).

Q: My exam city slip shows a different city from my preference — can I change?

NTA generally does not allow exam city changes after allotment. If there is a genuine discrepancy, contact NTA helpdesk at 011-40759000 or email at ugcnet@nta.ac.in with your application number immediately.
