UKPSC 2025 Mains — What This Admit Card Is For

Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) has released the Mains admit card for candidates who cleared the Preliminary Examination. This is the most critical stage of UKPSC Civil Services selection — the Mains examination carries the majority of the final merit weightage. Only candidates who cleared Prelims are eligible for Mains, and your Mains rank determines your final posting.

UKPSC recruits for posts including Deputy Collector, DSP, Block Development Officer, Finance and Accounts Officer, District Commandant Home Guard, and other Uttarakhand State Services Group A and B posts. The Mains examination is your primary chance to differentiate yourself.

Complete Exam Day Checklist for UKPSC Mains

  • Printed Admit Card — colour print is strongly recommended. If printed in B&W, ensure the photograph is clear and your name/roll number is legible.
  • Original Photo ID — Aadhar Card, Voter ID, or Passport. Must match exactly what's on the admit card.
  • 2 passport-size photographs — some UKPSC venues ask for a photo on the attendance sheet
  • Blue/Black ball-point pen (2–3 pens) — Mains is a descriptive/handwritten exam. Bring extras.
  • Geometry instruments — if appearing for technical/mathematical papers where diagrams are expected
  • No mobile phones, smartwatches, or electronic devices inside exam hall

UKPSC Mains Format — What You're Writing

UKPSC Mains is a multi-paper descriptive examination. Papers typically include:

  • General Hindi: Essay, grammar, comprehension, translation — must pass to qualify for merit ranking
  • General Studies Papers (I, II): History, geography, polity, economy, environment, current affairs with an Uttarakhand-specific focus
  • Optional Subject Paper: Choose from the UKPSC optional list — this often has the highest marks weight

Answer quality matters more than quantity. A well-structured 300-word answer with clear headings, specific facts, and a conclusion scores better than 500 words of rambling. Practice writing complete answers within time — this is where most candidates lose marks in Mains.

Uttarakhand-Specific Preparation Points

UKPSC Mains consistently tests Uttarakhand-specific topics: Chipko movement, Tehri Dam, Kedarnath disaster management, state geography (Uttarakhand's 13 districts, major rivers, hill stations), and Uttarakhand's tribal communities. General GS preparation is not enough — you need dedicated Uttarakhand-focused study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if the admit card has an error (wrong name or DOB)?

Contact the UKPSC office immediately at psc.uk.gov.in. Corrections need to be made before the exam date — don't show up with an error-ridden admit card hoping the invigilator accepts it. For minor discrepancies, some venues accept a supporting document, but this is not reliable. Get it corrected officially.

Q: Is there a word limit for Mains answers?

Most UKPSC Mains questions specify a word limit (e.g., "Answer in 150 words" or "Answer in 250 words"). Stay within the limit — examiners often deduct marks for significantly exceeding word limits. Practice writing concise, complete answers within limits well before the exam.

Q: Can I use pencil for any part of the Mains exam?

No. All written answers must be in blue or black ball-point pen. Pencil is only for diagrams where specified. Using pencil for written answers makes them invalid.
