UPHESC Assistant Professor 2022 — Exam City and Preparation Guide
Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission (UPHESC) has released Exam City Details for Assistant Professor Recruitment 2022 (Advertisement 51/2022). UPHESC recruits Assistant Professors for UP government degree colleges (Post-Graduate Colleges, degree colleges under Allahabad State University, Purvanchal University, etc.) across the state.
UPHESC Assistant Professor is a Level 10 gazetted post — the entry point into UP's higher education teaching cadre. This is equivalent in prestige to GIC Lecturer (for school level) but at the college level. Selected candidates teach undergraduate students (BA/B.Sc/B.Com) in their subject in government degree colleges across UP.
Exam Pattern Reminder
UPHESC exam has two parts on the same day:
Paper I — General Studies (100 marks): Teaching methodology, research aptitude, reasoning, general knowledge, UP higher education system. Duration: 1.5 hours.
Paper II — Subject Specific (200 marks): Post-graduation level subject paper. Covers the full breadth of your subject (History, Geography, Economics, Mathematics, Hindi, English, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) at a depth similar to UGC-NET. Duration: 2.5 hours.
Both papers are MCQ. No negative marking in most UPHESC exams — verify from your admit card.

UPHESC vs UPPSC GIC Lecturer — Key Differences
Both are government college/school teaching posts in UP but at different levels:
- GIC Lecturer teaches Classes 9–12 (school level); UPHESC teaches UG level (degree college)
- UPHESC Assistant Professor requires post-graduation; GIC Lecturer also requires PG but exam is different
- UPHESC is Pay Level 10 (₹57,700 basic) vs GIC Lecturer at Pay Level 8 (₹47,600 basic) — UPHESC pays more
- UPHESC exam subject paper depth is closer to UGC-NET level; GIC exam is also deep but structured differently
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is NET/SLET mandatory for UPHESC Assistant Professor?
No. UPHESC conducts its own written examination and does not require UGC-NET/JRF or SLET as a mandatory prerequisite for state college Assistant Professor appointments (this differs from central universities where NET is mandatory). However, having cleared NET shows strong subject preparation and many UPHESC toppers have NET/JRF backgrounds.
Q: Are UPHESC Assistant Professors transferred across UP?
Yes. UPHESC Assistant Professors are transferred across government degree colleges in UP by the higher education department. Initial posting is based on vacancy. Transfer requests can be made after minimum service at a location — UP has a digital transfer system for government college teachers. Postings in Lucknow, Allahabad (Prayagraj), and major cities are most sought-after.
