UPPSC PCS Prelims 2026 — Exam City Intimation Guide

UPPSC has released Exam City Intimation for Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Preliminary Examination 2026. This tells you which city your exam centre will be in — the full admit card with building address, room number, and roll seat details will be released separately. Keep checking uppsc.up.nic.in for your admit card.

UPPSC PCS (Provincial Civil Service) is UP's most prestigious state civil services exam. Successful candidates are appointed as SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate), DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police), BDO (Block Development Officer), Deputy Jailor, District Social Welfare Officer, and other Group A/B gazetted posts. This is a life-changing exam — take it with complete seriousness.

Prelims Pattern — What You're Appearing For

UPPSC PCS Prelims has two papers:

Paper I — General Studies (200 marks, merit-based): Current affairs, Indian history, Indian and UP geography, Indian polity, economy, science and technology, environment, UP-specific GK. This paper determines your Prelims merit rank.

Paper II — CSAT (200 marks, qualifying only): Reading comprehension, logical reasoning, basic arithmetic, data interpretation, decision-making. Minimum 33% (66/200) needed to clear. Below this, Paper I is not evaluated.

Both papers are 2 hours, MCQ format, 200 questions each. Negative marking: −0.33 per wrong answer.

Exam Day Checklist

  • UPPSC Admit Card (colour print strongly recommended)
  • Original Photo ID — Aadhar, Voter ID, or Passport
  • Blue/Black pen for filling OMR sheet
  • 2 passport-size photographs
  • Arrive 60–75 minutes early — UPPSC venues have long security queues for a 2-paper day
  • No mobile phones or electronic devices inside

UP-Specific GK — What Separates Top Scorers

Paper I consistently has 25–35 questions specifically about Uttar Pradesh: UP geography (Ganga plains, Vindhya region, major rivers, wildlife sanctuaries like Dudhwa, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve), UP history (Awadh, Bundelkhand, freedom movement events in UP), UP government schemes (UP One District One Product, CM Kisan, Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana), UP economy (sugarcane belt, leather cluster in Agra/Kanpur), and current appointments in UP government.

General GS books (NCERT + Laxmikant + standard sources) cover national content — but UP-specific preparation requires dedicated state-focused material. UP Current Affairs from Drishti IAS or PCS-specific coaching notes are important additions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: If my exam city is different from my preferred city, can I change it?

No. UPPSC exam city allotments are final. The city was assigned based on your preference during application and availability. If you filled the correct preference at application time and got a different city, contact UPPSC with your application number — genuine errors are corrected before admit card release. After admit card release, centres are fixed.

Q: What is the Prelims cutoff typically?

UPPSC PCS Prelims cutoffs vary by year and category. Typically, General category cutoff in Paper I falls in the range of 100–130/200 depending on the difficulty level. SC/ST cutoffs are lower. These are estimates from previous years — actual cutoffs are announced only after the result. Don't calculate your chances based on estimated cutoffs during the exam — just attempt every question you know.
