What Is a Lekhpal?

Lekhpal (also called Patwari in other states) is a revenue officer at the village level in Uttar Pradesh. A Lekhpal maintains land records, helps in settling land disputes, prepares crop surveys, and assists in government schemes at the grass-roots level. The post is part of the Revenue Department of UP and is one of the most respected state-level government jobs.
