Improvement vs Compartment — Key Difference

It is important to understand the distinction between these two exam types:

  1. Compartment Exam — For students who failed in one subject in the main board exam. If cleared, the student passes Class 10 without repeating the full year. Students who failed in two or more subjects cannot appear in compartment and must repeat the class.
  2. Improvement Exam — For students who passed Class 10 but want to improve their marks in one or more subjects. The higher of the two scores (original or improvement) is considered for the final marksheet. Useful for improving scores for Class 11 stream/school selection or college admissions later.
