UPPSC RO / ARO 2023 — What the Final Result Means

Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has declared the Final Result for Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) Recruitment 2023. This result comes after a long process — Prelims, Mains (written), and the typing/computer skill test. If your name is on this list, you are provisionally selected for one of the most respected clerical officer posts in UP state services.

RO (Review Officer) and ARO (Assistant Review Officer) are Secretariat-cadre posts. You'll work directly in the UP Secretariat in Lucknow — not in field offices or districts. These are white-collar administrative posts in the highest tier of UP's state bureaucracy, handling file work, noting, drafting, and document review for senior IAS officers.

What the RO and ARO Job Actually Involves

Review Officer (RO): RO is a Group B post. You handle the review and dispatch of files between departments, quality-check draft correspondence before it goes to senior officers, and manage the documentation flow of an entire section. RO is the senior cadre — you supervise AROs and deal directly with Under Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries.

Assistant Review Officer (ARO): ARO is a Group C post — the entry point into the RO cadre. You assist the RO in file management, noting (writing observations on file), drafting replies to correspondence, maintaining registers, and computer-based record keeping. ARO's promotion to RO typically happens within 8–10 years.

Document Verification — What to Bring

UPPSC will issue DV call letters for shortlisted candidates. Documents required at DV:

  • 10th, 12th, and Graduation certificates (originals + photocopies)
  • UP domicile certificate (mandatory — non-UP candidates are ineligible)
  • Category certificate — OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS in UP prescribed format
  • Typing speed certificate — Hindi typing (25 WPM) and Computer proficiency proof
  • Computer knowledge certificate — O Level / CCC from NIELIT, or CS-related degree
  • Aadhar Card + 2 other photo IDs
  • Character certificate from a Gazetted Officer
  • 6 recent passport-size photographs
  • NOC/Relieving letter if currently employed in a government post

Salary and Career Path

ARO is placed at Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 basic). With UP state DA, HRA (Lucknow is Y-category — 18% HRA), and allowances, in-hand salary is approximately ₹55,000–₹60,000/month. RO is placed at Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 basic) — in-hand approximately ₹68,000–₹74,000/month.

Both are Lucknow-based Secretariat postings — you don't get transferred to districts. This geographic stability in UP's capital, combined with white-collar working conditions and direct access to senior IAS officers, makes RO/ARO among the most sought-after non-gazetted posts in UP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can an ARO become an IAS officer?

Not directly. But AROs frequently appear for UPPSC PCS (Civil Services) while serving and some crack it, moving to SDM, BDO, or other gazetted posts. The Secretariat exposure — understanding how files move, how policy decisions are made, how UP's administration actually functions — gives AROs a genuine advantage in civil services preparation compared to candidates who have never worked in government.

Q: Is there a Hindi typing requirement?

Yes. Hindi typing at 25 WPM (words per minute) on a computer keyboard was part of the selection process. Your typing certificate from the skill test stage is a document you must produce at DV. If the skill test was conducted by UPPSC itself, your performance record should be on file — but carry the certificate anyway.
