UPSC CDS II 2025 Final Result — What Comes Next
Union Public Service Commission has declared the Final Result for Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination II 2025. This result is after the written exam and SSB (Services Selection Board) interview. If your name is on the list, you are recommended for appointment as an officer in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, or Indian Air Force — subject to medical examination and training vacancy availability.
CDS is the officer entry route into India's three armed forces. IMA (Indian Military Academy, Dehradun) for Army, INA (Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala) for Navy, and AFA (Air Force Academy, Hyderabad/Dundigal) for Air Force. OTA (Officers Training Academy, Chennai) provides Short Service Commission for both men and women.
Medical Examination — The Final Stage
After the final result, selected candidates undergo a Detailed Medical Examination (DME) at a designated Military Hospital. Physical standards are stringent: eyesight (especially Air Force — uncorrected vision 6/6 required), hearing, blood pressure, flat feet, and overall fitness. Candidates who don't clear DME can apply for Special Medical Board (SMB) review within a short window.
Training and Career After Selection
IMA (Army): 18 months' training at IMA Dehradun. Commission as Lieutenant. Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 basic) + Military Service Pay ₹15,500 + grade pay. In-hand at first posting: approximately ₹1,00,000–₹1,10,000/month including field allowances.
INA (Navy): Training at Ezhimala. Commission as Sub-Lieutenant. Same pay structure as Army with Navy-specific allowances.
AFA (Air Force): Flying training at Dundigal + Hyderabad for approximately 18–24 months. Commission as Flying Officer. Additional Flying Allowance for pilot stream.
OTA (Short Service): 11 months training. Short Service Commission (5+5 years). Can apply for permanent commission after service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can CDS selected candidates choose their regiment or branch?
For Army IMA candidates, regiment allocation happens after training based on merit rank and vacancies in each regiment. You can indicate preferences but final allocation is by the Army. For Navy and Air Force, branch allocation (Engineering, Electrical, Executive, Education, Logistics) is based on merit and vacancies at the time of training completion.
Q: What if I'm not selected in CDS II 2025 — can I try again?
Yes. CDS exam is held twice a year (CDS I and CDS II). Age eligibility: for IMA/INA/AFA — unmarried male, 19–24 years; for OTA — 19–25 years (men and women). If within age limits, you can apply for the next CDS cycle. SSB is typically the harder hurdle — most candidates improve with each attempt as they build confidence and communication skills.
