How to Use This Age Calculator
Select a Quick Exam (Optional)

Click the "Date of Birth" field and select your actual date of birth from the date picker. Make sure to enter the DOB exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate.
Set the Cut-off Date

Frequently Asked Questions
1How is age calculated for government job forms?
Age for government jobs is calculated as of a specified cut-off date mentioned in the official notification — not the date you submit the application. The calculation gives exact years, months, and days. For example, if the cut-off date is 1 January 2026 and your DOB is 15 March 1994, your age would be 31 years, 9 months, and 16 days — which means you are 31 years old as of the cut-off date.
2What is the age cut-off date?
The cut-off date (also called reference date) is the specific date on which the commission calculates your age. It is always stated in the official notification — for SSC exams it is usually 1 January of the recruitment year, for UPSC CSE it is 1 August, and for banking exams it is the date of notification release. You must meet the age criteria as of this date — not your application date.
3How much relaxation do OBC candidates get?
OBC – Non Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates get 3 years of age relaxation in most central government exams including SSC, UPSC, IBPS, RRB, and UPSC. This means if the upper age limit for General/UR is 32 years, OBC candidates can apply up to 35 years. The relaxation applies only to the upper age limit — the lower age limit (e.g., 18 or 21 years) remains the same for all categories. Note: OBC Creamy Layer candidates are treated as General/UR.
4Can I get both OBC and PwD relaxation together?
Yes. PwD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) candidates from the OBC category get cumulative relaxation of 13 years (10 years for PwD + 3 years for OBC). Similarly, PwD candidates from SC/ST get 15 years of relaxation. This is a combined benefit available in most central government exams under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
5What is the age limit for UPSC IAS (Civil Services) exam?
For UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026, the age limits are: General/UR — 21 to 32 years (maximum 6 attempts), OBC-NCL — 21 to 35 years (maximum 9 attempts), SC/ST — 21 to 37 years (unlimited attempts up to age 37). Age is calculated as of 1 August of the examination year. There is also a minimum educational qualification of a bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
6How do I calculate age in years, months, and days accurately?
To calculate exact age: (1) Start from your DOB. (2) Count full years until the cut-off date. (3) Count remaining full months. (4) Count remaining days. Our calculator handles all edge cases — including months with different numbers of days (28, 29, 30, 31) and leap years. The formula is: years = cutoff year − DOB year, then adjust months and days if the birthday hasn't occurred yet in the cutoff year.
7What documents prove date of birth for government jobs?
Accepted proof of date of birth for government job applications includes: (1) Class 10 / Matriculation certificate or mark sheet from a recognized board — this is the most universally accepted document. (2) Birth certificate issued by a municipal authority or panchayat. (3) Passport. (4) Aadhaar card (accepted by many, but not all, exam authorities as primary DOB proof). Always check the specific exam notification, as SSC, UPSC, and IBPS have different policies.
8Is there any government exam with no upper age limit?
Yes, a few government positions have no upper age limit or very relaxed limits: (1) UPSC IFS (Indian Forest Service) — same as Civil Services, so 32 for UR. (2) Some state PSC exams for specific posts. (3) Part-time or contractual government positions. (4) CSIR/UGC NET — no upper age limit for JRF for some categories. However, the vast majority of gazetted central government posts enforce strict upper age limits as per the respective recruitment rules.
