SSC CGL 2026 Exam Pattern – Tier 1

Tier 1 is a qualifying exam — marks are NOT counted in the final merit. It is used to shortlist candidates for Tier 2. The exam has 100 MCQs worth 200 marks to be completed in 60 minutes. Negative marking of 0.50 marks per wrong answer applies.

SSC CGL Selection Process 2026

  1. Tier 1 (Qualifying CBT): 100 MCQs, 200 marks, 60 minutes. Used only to shortlist candidates for Tier 2. Marks NOT counted in final merit.
  2. Tier 2 (Merit-Determining CBT): Paper I (compulsory, 390 merit marks) + Paper II (JSO only, 200 marks). Final merit is based entirely on Tier 2 marks.
  3. Skill Test / Typing Test: Qualifying in nature. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) or Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) based on the post.
  4. Document Verification: Original certificates, identity, category, education verification.
