Frequently Asked Questions
1What photo size is required for SSC forms?
SSC requires a passport-size photograph of 132×170 pixels (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm equivalent) in JPEG format with file size between 20 KB and 50 KB. The photo must be taken against a white background with the face clearly visible. Do not wear sunglasses or cap. Our Photo Resizer has an SSC preset that auto-fills these exact dimensions and KB targets.
2What photo size is required for UPSC CSE (IAS) form?
UPSC Civil Services Application requires a square photograph of 550×550 pixels in JPEG format with file size between 20 KB and 300 KB. UPSC also requires that you print your name and date at the bottom of the photo before uploading. Use our "Add Text to Photo" tool for that. Make sure the photo is recent (not older than 6 months) and taken in colour.
3What is the correct photo size for IBPS PO and SBI PO forms?
IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, SBI Clerk, and RBI Grade B all require the same photo dimensions: 200×230 pixels (width × height) in JPEG format. The file size must be between 20 KB and 50 KB. Background should be white or light-coloured. Our IBPS/SBI/RBI preset fills these values automatically when you click it.
4Why does my photo fail to upload even though the pixel size is correct?
The most common reason is file size — even if the pixel dimensions are right, a photo that is too large (above the max KB) or too small (below the min KB) will be rejected. Our binary-search compression algorithm precisely targets the KB range specified by each portal. Also make sure you are uploading a JPEG file, not PNG or HEIC — some portals do not accept PNG.
5Can I resize a HEIC photo taken on iPhone?
Yes, our tool accepts HEIC/HEIF files (the format iPhones use). It will convert and resize your photo to the required JPEG format with the exact pixel dimensions and KB size for the portal you select. Government portals only accept JPEG, so this conversion is necessary before uploading.
6Does resizing reduce photo quality?
When you reduce pixel dimensions, some detail is naturally lost — but for passport-size government ID photos at 132–200px width, the quality is more than sufficient. The binary-search JPEG compression we use tries to keep quality as high as possible while hitting the target KB range. The "Keep aspect ratio" option prevents your face from looking stretched or compressed.
7What does the binary search compression do?
JPEG compression quality goes from 1% (very compressed, small file) to 100% (minimal compression, large file). Our algorithm automatically finds the exact quality setting that produces a file within your target KB range. It runs up to 25 iterations of binary search, narrowing down the quality value until the file size is within bounds. This is far more accurate than manually adjusting quality sliders.
8How do I take a good passport photo for government forms?
Follow these guidelines: (1) Plain white or light background — no patterns. (2) Good front-facing natural light — avoid shadows on face or background. (3) Neutral expression with mouth closed. (4) Both eyes clearly visible — no sunglasses, no tinted glasses. (5) No head covering unless for religious reasons. (6) Photo taken within the last 6 months. Take the photo in good lighting with a 12MP+ smartphone camera for best results.
