You want to join the Indian Army as an Agniveer — great decision. But before you start preparing for the exam or working on your fitness, there's one thing you need to confirm first: are you even eligible?
Every year, thousands of candidates show up at rally centres only to be turned away because they don't meet the height requirement, or they're a few months over the age limit, or their educational qualification doesn't match the post they applied for. Don't let that be you.
This article covers every eligibility criterion — age limit, education (post-wise), physical measurements, medical standards, and the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) requirements. Read it completely before you apply.
Agniveer 2026 — Age Limit
| Post | Minimum Age | Maximum Age | DOB Range (for 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agniveer GD | 17.5 Years | 21 Years | 01 Oct 2004 – 01 Apr 2009 |
| Agniveer Technical | 17.5 Years | 23 Years | 01 Oct 2002 – 01 Apr 2009 |
| Agniveer Clerk / SKT | 17.5 Years | 23 Years | 01 Oct 2002 – 01 Apr 2009 |
| Agniveer Tradesman | 17.5 Years | 23 Years | 01 Oct 2002 – 01 Apr 2009 |
| Agniveer Women MP | 17.5 Years | 21 Years | 01 Oct 2004 – 01 Apr 2009 |
No age relaxation for any category — SC, ST, OBC, none. The Agnipath scheme follows a uniform age limit for everyone. This is strict — even one day over the limit means rejection.
Education Qualification — Post-wise
| Post | Minimum Education | Marks Required |
|---|---|---|
| Agniveer GD (General Duty) | Class 10th Pass | Minimum 33% in each subject + 45% aggregate |
| Agniveer Technical | Class 12th Pass (PCM) | 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Maths + 40% each subject |
| Agniveer Clerk / Store Keeper | Class 12th Pass (any stream) | 60% aggregate + 50% in each subject |
| Agniveer Tradesman (10th) | Class 10th Pass | Minimum 33% aggregate |
| Agniveer Tradesman (8th) | Class 8th Pass | For specific trades only |
| Agniveer Women Military Police | Class 10th Pass | 45% aggregate |
| Agniveer Nursing Asst | B.Sc Nursing / GNM | As per university norms |
Note: Board marks matter. If your 10th marksheet shows 44% aggregate, you're not eligible for GD even if you scored well in individual subjects. Get your documents verified beforehand.

Physical Standards — Height, Weight & Chest
| Category | Height (Min) | Weight (Min) | Chest (Unexpanded/Expanded) |
|---|---|---|---|
| General (Most States) | 170 cm | 50 kg | 77 / 82 cm (+5 cm expansion) |
| Gorkhas, Kumaoni, Garhwali | 165 cm | 48 kg | 77 / 82 cm |
| NE States, Ladakh, Sikkim | 162 cm | 48 kg | 77 / 82 cm |
| Adivasi / Tribal (ST) | 162 cm | 48 kg | 77 / 82 cm |
| Women (WMP) | 152 cm | 42 kg | — |
Height and chest measurements are non-negotiable. Unlike written exams where you can improve with preparation, these are physical parameters. If you're 168 cm and the requirement is 170 cm, there's no workaround. Measure yourself accurately before applying.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
This is where physical preparation matters most. The PFT is conducted at rally centres and is qualifying — you either pass or you're out.
| Test | Requirement (Male) | Requirement (Female - WMP) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km Run | Within 5 min 30 sec (Group I) / 5 min 45 sec (Group II) | Within 7 min 30 sec |
| Pull-ups (Beam) | 6 minimum (10 = bonus marks) | 3 minimum |
| 9 Feet Ditch Jump | Must clear | Must clear |
| Zig-Zag Balance | Must clear without falling | Must clear |
1.6 km Run — Bonus Marks System
| Time | Bonus Marks |
|---|---|
| Up to 5:30 | 60 marks (Group I) |
| 5:31 – 5:45 | 48 marks (Group II) |
| Above 5:45 | FAIL |
Pull-ups — Bonus Marks
| Pull-ups | Marks |
|---|---|
| 10 | 40 |
| 9 | 33 |
| 8 | 27 |
| 7 | 21 |
| 6 | 16 |
| Below 6 | FAIL |
Preparation tip: Start running 1.6 km daily — aim for under 5:30. Practice pull-ups — start from 2-3 and add one per week. Most failures happen in the run and pull-ups, not the ditch or balance.
