CRPF Constable Tradesman Eligibility 2026: Age, Education & Trade Criteria
The CRPF Constable Tradesman 2026 recruitment has 9,175 vacancies across 16 trades. Applications are open from 20 April to 19 May 2026. Before you fill the form, you need to confirm you meet every eligibility criterion — age, educational qualification, trade-specific requirements, and nationality.
The most common reason for rejection at the document verification stage is applying without actually meeting the educational or trade qualification. This article tells you exactly what is required for each trade — so you apply only if you genuinely qualify.

Nationality Requirements
Applicants must be one of the following:
- Citizen of India
- Subject of Nepal or Bhutan
- Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with intention to permanently settle
- Person of Indian origin (PIO) who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East Africa, or Vietnam with intent to permanently settle in India
For categories other than Indian citizens, a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India is required.
Age Limit — As on 01/01/2026
Age is calculated as of 01 January 2026. This is fixed in the notification — your birthday on any other date in 2026 doesn't matter. Only your age on 01/01/2026 counts.
| Trade | Minimum Age | Maximum Age (General/EWS) |
|---|---|---|
| Driver (all types) | 21 years | 27 years |
| All other trades (Cook, MMV, Bugler, Tailor, etc.) | 18 years | 23 years |
Driver has a higher minimum age (21) because a valid HMV driving licence requires the applicant to be at least 20 years old to obtain, and meaningful driving experience is expected. The upper age for Driver (27) is also higher than other trades.
Age Relaxation Table
| Category | Age Relaxation | Effective Upper Age (General trades) |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | No relaxation | 23 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | +3 years | 26 years |
| SC / ST | +5 years | 28 years |
| Ex-Serviceman (General) | +3 years | 26 years |
| Ex-Serviceman (OBC) | +6 years | 29 years |
| Ex-Serviceman (SC/ST) | +8 years | 31 years |
| Widows / Divorced Women (General) | +5 years | 28 years |
| Children of CRPF Personnel killed in action | +5 years | 28 years |
Important for OBC applicants: Relaxation is only for OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL). OBC Creamy Layer candidates are treated as General category for age and reservation purposes. Your OBC NCL certificate must be issued within the financial year of application (i.e., 2025–26).
Educational Qualification — Trade-wise
This is where most confusion arises. Not all trades require just a 10th pass. Technical trades require ITI. Driver requires an additional licence. Read this table carefully and match your exact qualification.
| Trade | Educational Qualification Required |
|---|---|
| Cook | 10th pass (Matriculation) from a recognised board |
| Bugler | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Safai Karmchari | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Water Carrier | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Washerman | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Mali | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Brass Band | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Pipe Band | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Hair Dresser | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| Barber | 10th pass from a recognised board |
| MMV (Mechanical Motor Vehicle) | 10th pass + ITI in Mechanic Motor Vehicle (or equivalent trade) |
| Carpenter | 10th pass + ITI in Carpentry (or equivalent trade) |
| Tailor | 10th pass + ITI in Tailoring / Dress Making (or equivalent) |
| Cobbler | 10th pass + ITI in Leather Goods Technology / Footwear Technology (or equivalent) |
| Painter | 10th pass + ITI in Painter General (or equivalent trade) |
| Driver | 10th pass + valid HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle) driving licence |
ITI requirement for technical trades: For MMV, Carpenter, Tailor, Cobbler, and Painter — your ITI certificate must be from an NCVT/SCVT-recognised institution. A simple vocational training certificate from a private institute that is not NCVT/SCVT recognised may not be accepted at document verification. Always check your ITI marksheet for the NCVT stamp.
Driver licence requirement: You need an HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle) driving licence. An LMV-only licence does not qualify. The licence must be valid on the date of application and at the time of trade test. If your licence is expired, renew it before applying.

Physical Standards — PST
Even if you meet the educational eligibility, you must also meet the physical standards to proceed beyond the PST stage. Check these before you apply:
| Category | Male Height | Male Chest (Un/Exp) | Female Height |
|---|---|---|---|
| General / OBC / SC / EWS | 170 cm | 80 / 85 cm | 157 cm |
| ST / Gorkha / Garhwali / Hill Tribes | 162.5 cm | 76 / 81 cm | 150 cm |
No weight standard is prescribed for males. For females, weight must be proportionate to height and age — this is assessed at PST by the recruitment panel. There is no fixed number, but candidates should not be clinically obese.
Application Fee
| Category | Application Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC / EWS | ₹100 |
| SC / ST | Free (Nil) |
| Female candidates (all categories) | Free (Nil) |
| Ex-Serviceman | Free (Nil) |
Fee is paid online via net banking, credit/debit card, or UPI. The application window is 20 April – 19 May 2026. There is typically a fee payment deadline a day before the form submission deadline — don't leave it to the last day.
