Indian Navy MR Vacancy 2026 — Don't Miss This Chance If You Have Passed 10th
The Indian Navy has opened applications for the Agniveer MR (Matric Recruit) 2026 batch, and the window is short — the form opened on 14 March 2026 and closes on 6 April 2026. If you have cleared your 10th board exams with at least 50% marks, this is your direct entry into the Indian Navy. No 12th required. No graduation required. Just your 10th marksheet and a fit body.
MR stands for Matric Recruit, and these recruits are enrolled under the Agniveer scheme for a 4-year service period. The posts available are Chef, Steward, and Hygienist — roles that form the essential backbone of day-to-day life aboard Indian Navy ships and shore establishments. If you have been looking for a government job right after 10th, this is one of the best opportunities available in 2026. Apply before 6 April 2026 or you will have to wait another year.

Eligibility Criteria — Who Can Apply for Navy MR?
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board — CBSE, ICSE, or any state board. The minimum aggregate score required is 50%. Individual subject marks are not separately specified for MR; the overall aggregate matters. Your 10th marksheet should clearly show at least 50% total marks.
Age Limit
You must be between 16.5 years and 21 years of age. In date terms, you must have been born between 1 November 2004 and 30 April 2009 (both dates inclusive). Candidates born outside this range are not eligible. There is no age relaxation under the Agniveer scheme — this rule applies equally to all categories.
Nationality and Marital Status
The candidate must be an Indian citizen (male). At the time of enrollment, the candidate must be unmarried. Marriage during the 4-year Agniveer service period is also not permitted.
Physical Standards
Candidates must meet the physical fitness standards set by the Indian Navy. The minimum height required is 157 cm. Weight and chest measurements must be proportionate to height as per Navy standards. Eyesight and other medical requirements will be checked during the medical examination stage.
MR Posts Explained — What Will You Actually Do?
Chef (Cook)
The Chef in the Indian Navy is responsible for preparing and serving meals for the ship's crew and shore establishment personnel. This is not a civilian kitchen job — Navy Chefs work in highly organised, disciplined environments aboard warships, submarines, and shore bases. They handle large-scale cooking, maintain hygiene standards in the galley, and ensure nutritional meals are served on time. Training is provided by the Navy, so prior cooking experience is helpful but not mandatory.
Steward (Hospitality and Housekeeping)
Stewards are assigned to officers' messes and cabins, where they handle hospitality, housekeeping, and service duties. This includes laying tables, serving meals, cleaning officers' quarters, managing linen and inventory, and ensuring a well-maintained living environment for senior naval officers. It is a position that demands discipline, attention to detail, and a courteous attitude. Stewards often travel on ships during deployments.
Hygienist (Sanitation and Healthcare Support)
The Hygienist role is critical to the health and sanitation of the entire naval unit. Hygienists work alongside medical officers and assist in maintaining cleanliness of medical facilities, sick bays, and general living areas. They also support vaccination drives, health inspections, and basic medical assistance duties. This is an ideal role for candidates interested in healthcare and public health.
Navy Agniveer MR Salary — Year by Year
The salary under the Agniveer scheme is structured to increase each year. Here is the complete salary breakdown for all 4 years of service:
| Year of Service | Total Package (Monthly) | Agniveer Corpus Contribution (30%) | In-Hand Salary (70%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Rs.30,000 | Rs.9,000 | Rs.21,000 |
| Year 2 | Rs.33,000 | Rs.9,900 | Rs.23,100 |

| Year 4 | Rs.40,000 | Rs.12,000 | Rs.28,000 |
At the end of 4 years, you will receive a Seva Nidhi package of Rs.10.04 lakh as a lump sum. This amount is completely tax-free. The government contributes an equal amount to the corpus fund.
