"Grade III needs 12th pass"False. Only 10th pass is required, along with ITI.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can a B.Tech graduate apply for Grade III?

Yes. B.Tech graduates technically exceed the minimum qualification for Grade III. RRB does not bar over-qualified candidates. However, you would be joining at the same Level 2 pay (₹19,900 basic) as an ITI holder. Most B.Tech graduates prefer Grade I Signal (Level 5, ₹29,200 basic) instead.

Q: Is the OBC certificate from any state valid?

Yes, but it must specifically certify that you belong to the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL). An OBC certificate without NCL mention is not accepted. The certificate should be issued within the last 12 months from a competent authority.

Q: Can I apply for both Grade I Signal and Grade III in the same application?

You can fill a single application and indicate preference by zone/RRB. However, you cannot simultaneously target both grades — you apply based on your qualification. If you have both a B.Sc and ITI, apply for Grade I Signal (higher pay and responsibility).

Q: What if I am appearing in my final B.Sc exam?

CEN 02/2026 requires the qualifying degree/diploma to be completed as of the application date. Candidates appearing in final-year exams are generally not eligible — the degree must be in hand. Check the official notification for the exact cutoff date.

Q: My vision is 6/9 in one eye and 6/18 in the other. Can I apply for Grade I Signal?

No. B1 medical requires 6/9 in the better eye AND 6/12 in the worse eye. 6/18 in either eye fails the B1 standard. You may still qualify for Grade III (C1 medical) where the standard is 6/12 and 6/18.

Q: What is the application window?

Full CEN 02/2026 released 29 June 2026. Applications open 30 June 2026 and close 29 July 2026 at 11:59 PM. Fee payment also closes 29 July 2026. Apply at the official RRB website for your zone.

Complete ITI Trade List — Grade III Posts

Grade III posts accept a wide range of NCVT/SCVT ITI trades. The following trades are explicitly eligible for CEN 02/2026:

Trade GroupQualifying ITI Trades
ElectricalElectrician, Wireman, Electrical Maintenance, Power Electronics
MechanicalFitter, Machinist, Turner, Welder, Blacksmith, Pipe Fitter, Sheet Metal Worker
Electronics/ITElectronics Mechanic, Electronic System Maintenance, ICT System Maintenance, Mechanic Computer Hardware
Civil/SurveySurveyor, Draughtsman (Civil), Draughtsman (Mechanical), Carpenter, Mason Building Constructor
AutomotiveMechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic Diesel, Tractor Mechanic
RefrigerationRefrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, RAC Mechanic
PrintingOffset Machine Minder, Plate Maker cum Impositor, Compositor cum DTP Operator

Grade I Signal posts require trades specifically in Electronics, Communication, or Instrumentation — Electrician alone is insufficient for Grade I Signal.

Medical Standards

Railway Technician posts carry specific medical category requirements. Physical fitness is tested at the time of document verification.

Post TypeMedical CategoryKey Vision Standard
Grade I SignalB-1Distant vision 6/9 both eyes without glasses; colour vision normal
Grade III — ElectricalB-2Distant vision 6/12 one eye, 6/18 other; colour vision required for most
Grade III — Mechanical (Welding)B-1No colour blindness; normal depth perception
Grade III — TrackmenA-1Most stringent — 6/9 both eyes, no glasses
Grade III — Signal/TelecommunicationB-1No colour blindness; 6/9 one eye, 6/12 other

Height and weight requirements are not explicitly specified for Technician posts, but candidates with locomotor disabilities may apply for posts where the disability does not affect job function — PH age relaxation of 10 years applies.

Ex-Serviceman Eligibility

Ex-Servicemen (ESM) with qualifying education can apply for Technician Grade III posts. The age calculation is: (actual age) minus (years of military service) — the result must not exceed 30 years for General/UR category (33 for OBC, 35 for SC/ST). The military service period itself does not count toward the total.

ESM candidates need a Discharge Certificate from the respective armed forces command. Ex-Servicemen who have already secured civilian employment are not eligible for ESM reservation benefits.

Application Process

RRB Technician CEN 02/2026 applications are submitted through the regional RRB website of the candidate's choice. Key steps:

  1. Register with a valid email and mobile number on the RRB website
  2. Fill personal details, educational qualification, and ITI trade
  3. Upload scanned photograph (20–50 KB), signature (10–40 KB), and ITI certificate
  4. Select exam city preference (up to 3 cities in the RRB region)
  5. There is NO application fee for any category — RRB Technician CEN 02/2026 is fee-free
  6. Submit and download the confirmation page

There is no requirement to send physical documents by post. All verification happens at the time of Document Verification (DV) after CBT results are declared.

Documents Required at DV Stage

  • 10th marksheet and certificate (for Grade III) — or B.Sc / Diploma certificate (for Grade I Signal)
  • ITI certificate/marksheet with NCVT or SCVT trade clearly stated (Grade III)
  • Degree/Diploma certificates with all year marksheets (Grade I Signal)
  • Category certificate (OBC/SC/ST/EWS) — not older than 1 year for OBC (non-creamy layer)
  • Disability/PH certificate from competent authority (if applicable)
  • Discharge certificate and PPO (for Ex-Servicemen)
  • Aadhaar card / PAN card / Passport as photo ID

Frequently Asked Questions (continued)

Q: Can I apply if my ITI is from a state board (SCVT) rather than NCVT?

Yes. Both NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) and SCVT (State Council for Vocational Training) certificates are accepted, as long as the trade is in the list of qualifying trades. Verify your specific trade name against the official CEN 02/2026 notification trade list.

Q: I have an Apprenticeship Certificate under the Apprentices Act — does this qualify as ITI?

No. An Apprenticeship Certificate is not equivalent to an ITI certificate for RRB Technician eligibility. You need a formal ITI pass certificate from an NCVT or SCVT-recognized institute. Apprenticeship training done after 10th pass without an ITI does not substitute.

Q: If I have both a Diploma and an ITI, which should I mention?

Mention both. For Grade III posts, the ITI is sufficient. If you are also applying for Grade I Signal (where a diploma qualifies), mention your diploma. Having higher qualifications than required does not make you ineligible — it gives you options across both grades.

Common Eligibility Mistakes to Avoid

  • Wrong trade mentioned: Some candidates write "Electrical Engineering" when their ITI trade is "Electrician" — these are different qualifications. Use the exact ITI trade name as printed on your certificate.
  • Wrong grade applied for: Grade I Signal requires a degree or diploma — an ITI alone does not qualify. Grade III does not need a degree. Read the detailed vacancy table in CEN 02/2026 before selecting your post.
  • SCVT certificate not registered with NCVT: Some states' SCVT certificates were migrated to NCVT's database. If yours is not, carry the original mark sheet and bonafide from your ITI institute to the DV stage.
  • Applying in wrong RRB region: You can apply in any RRB region, but your exam city preference is limited to cities within that region. Choose the RRB region closest to your preferred exam location.
