RRB Technician Eligibility 2026: Grade I Signal vs Grade III Qualification
RRB Technician CEN 02/2026 has two distinct grades with very different qualification requirements. Grade I Signal (323 posts) needs a science degree or engineering diploma. Grade I Signal — Qualification Details
Grade I Signal is a supervisory technical post responsible for maintaining and operating railway signalling equipment at stations, yards, and level crossings. Eligibility:
- Route 1 — B.Sc degree: B.Sc with Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Instrumentation from a recognized university. The subject must be part of the degree — a B.Sc in Chemistry or Botany does not qualify.
- Route 2 — 3-year Engineering Diploma: Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or Instrumentation Engineering from an AICTE-approved polytechnic. A 2-year ITI does NOT meet this requirement — it must be a full 3-year polytechnic diploma.
- Important: No minimum percentage is specified. Any pass in the qualifying degree/diploma is acceptable.
- Nationality: Indian citizen; or a citizen of Nepal or Bhutan; or Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with intent to settle; or person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries.
Grade III — ITI Trade-Wise Eligibility
Grade III Technicians maintain rolling stock, track, electrical systems, and infrastructure. The minimum qualification is 10th class (Matriculation) pass from a recognised board PLUS a National Trade Certificate (NTC) under NCVT or SCVT. Both NCVT and SCVT are valid.

Age is reckoned as on 1 July 2026 for CEN 02/2026. You must have been born between the qualifying dates. Birth certificate as per matriculation certificate is the accepted proof.
Medical Standards
Railway recruitment requires a medical examination after selection. Candidates who do not meet medical standards are rejected at this stage.
- Grade I Signal — B1 Medical: Distant vision 6/9 and 6/12 (with or without spectacles). Near vision N8 and N12. Colour vision CP II (should be able to distinguish between red, yellow, and green). No nystagmus. Hearing normal.
- Grade III — C1 Medical: Spectacles permitted with visual acuity 6/12 and 6/18. Near vision N12. Colour vision CP III (relaxed — most trades). Hearing adequate for normal conversation.
- Divyang (PH) candidates: Medical Board assesses functional ability for the specific post.
