You need a Master's Degree from any recognized Indian university in ONE of these subjects:

Important clarifications:
- M.Com is eligible — yes, Commerce is explicitly listed. Many M.Com candidates don't know this.
- M.A Economics is eligible — Economics is listed. Doesn't matter if it's M.A or M.Sc.
- Final year students — can appear, but must have degree before document verification.
- Distance/correspondence degrees — valid only if university is UGC-recognized.
O Level Computer Diploma — Non-Negotiable
Besides the Master's degree, you MUST have:
- O Level Diploma from NIELIT (formerly DOEACC), OR
- 1-year Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized university/institution
Don't have it? You can still apply if you're enrolled and will complete it before DV. But it's safer to have it done. O Level courses are available at most computer institutes — takes 6-12 months and costs Rs.5,000-10,000.
UPSSSC PET 2025 — The Gatekeeper
This is unique to UPSSSC exams. Before you can appear for the ASO Mains, you must have:
- Appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 (Preliminary Eligibility Test)
- Have a valid PET Score Card
PET is the common screening test for all UPSSSC posts. Your PET score is used to shortlist candidates — the Commission shortlists up to 15x the number of vacancies per category based on PET normalized scores.
929 posts × 15 = ~13,935 candidates shortlisted for Mains. If your PET score is above the shortlisting cutoff, you get to write the actual ASO exam.

Age as on 01 July 2026. The upper limit of 40 (General) is quite generous — most government exams cap at 27-35.

Same exam, same everything — just different post names. 916 ASO posts vs 13 ARO. Statistically, ASO is easier to secure.
How to Apply — Step by Step
- Visit upsssc.gov.in
- Login with Personal Info or OTP
- Select "ASO/ARO (Advt No. 05-Exam/2026)"
- Fill personal details, education, PET registration number
- Upload photo, signature, ID proof, address proof
- Pay Rs.25 fee via SBI I-Collect or E-Challan
- Submit and take printout

Common Questions
Can B.Com students apply?
Only if they have M.Com (Master's in Commerce). B.Com alone is not enough — you need the post-graduate degree.
Can BA Economics students apply?
Only if they have M.A Economics. The requirement is Master's degree in Economics, not Bachelor's.
I don't have O Level. Can I still apply?
You can apply if you're enrolled in O Level course. But you must complete it before document verification. Don't risk it — start the course NOW.
I gave PET 2024, not 2025. Am I eligible?
No. Only PET 2025 scorecard is accepted for this recruitment cycle. If you have PET 2024, it won't work for ASO 2026.
Is there any application fee?
Rs.25 for all categories. Same fee regardless of General, OBC, SC, ST, or PwD.
Can I apply from outside UP?
Yes — no domicile restriction for applying. But reservation benefits (OBC/SC/ST age relaxation) are only for UP domicile candidates.
