UPSSSC ASO 2026 — Eligibility at a Glance

You need a Master's Degree from any recognized Indian university in ONE of these subjects:

Important clarifications:

• M.Com is eligible — yes, Commerce is explicitly listed. Many M.Com candidates don't know this.
• M.A Economics is eligible — Economics is listed. Doesn't matter if it's M.A or M.Sc.
• Final year students — can appear, but must have degree before document verification.
• Distance/correspondence degrees — valid only if university is UGC-recognized.

O Level Computer Diploma — Non-Negotiable

Besides the Master's degree, you MUST have:

• O Level Diploma from NIELIT (formerly DOEACC), OR
• 1-year Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized university/institution

Don't have it? You can still apply if you're enrolled and will complete it before DV. But it's safer to have it done. O Level courses are available at most computer institutes — takes 6-12 months and costs Rs.5,000-10,000.

UPSSSC PET 2025 — The Gatekeeper

This is unique to UPSSSC exams. Before you can appear for the ASO Mains, you must have:

• Appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 (Preliminary Eligibility Test)
• Have a valid PET Score Card

PET is the common screening test for all UPSSSC posts. Your PET score is used to shortlist candidates — the Commission shortlists up to 15x the number of vacancies per category based on PET normalized scores.

929 posts × 15 = ~13,935 candidates shortlisted for Mains. If your PET score is above the shortlisting cutoff, you get to write the actual ASO exam.

PET 2025 Score Validity — What You Need to Know

UPSSSC PET (Preliminary Eligibility Test) is the gateway to ASO and most other UPSSSC recruitments. Here's what candidates frequently get confused about:

PET score validity is 1 year from the date of the result. So if UPSSSC PET 2025 result was declared in November 2025, your score is valid for all UPSSSC recruitments announced up to November 2026. After that, you need to clear PET again.

The ASO 2026 recruitment specifically requires a valid PET score at the time of application. If your PET score has expired or you haven't given PET at all, you cannot apply — period. This is a hard filter, not a formality.

What PET score actually means for ASO shortlisting: PET is used as the first screening filter. Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Exam based on PET rank within their category. Typically UPSSSC shortlists 10–15 candidates per vacancy for the Main Exam. Important: The certificate must be from NIELIT or a NIELIT-recognized institution. Private institute certificates that aren't NIELIT-affiliated are not accepted. Check your certificate — it should have NIELIT's name and logo on it.

If you have a BCA, B.Tech (CS/IT), MCA, or any computer science degree, you're generally exempted from the separate computer certificate requirement — your degree itself covers it. Check the official notification carefully for this exemption.

Why Applications Get Rejected — Learn From Others' Mistakes

UPSSSC receives lakhs of applications for ASO. Here are the most common rejection reasons at the application scrutiny stage:

Wrong domicile: UPSSSC ASO is exclusively for UP domicile candidates. A domicile certificate from another state — even if you've lived in UP for 10 years — will cause rejection. Get your UP domicile certificate from your tehsil or district office before applying.

Computer certificate not from NIELIT: Private institute certificates that don't carry NIELIT affiliation are rejected. Verify your certificate source. If in doubt, check the NIELIT website to confirm your institute is listed.

Graduation degree not complete at time of application: You must have completed graduation — not just appearing or awaiting result. If your final year result was not declared by the application deadline, you're not eligible. "Appearing candidates" are not accepted for ASO.

PET score expired: Submitting an expired PET score is the single most common avoidable rejection. Check the result date on your PET scorecard and verify validity against the ASO notification date.

Category certificate issues: Category certificates (OBC/SC/ST/EWS) must be in the prescribed UP government format, issued by an authorized officer. Certificates in old formats, from lower-level officers than prescribed, or without validity dates are rejected.

Q: Can candidates from outside UP apply for UPSSSC ASO?

No. UPSSSC ASO is a state service recruitment exclusively for UP domicile candidates. Candidates from other states, even if they're currently residing in UP or studying in UP colleges, cannot apply unless they have a valid UP domicile certificate.

Q: Is OBC NCL certificate required or just OBC certificate?

For UPSSSC ASO, OBC candidates need an OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate specifically. A plain OBC caste certificate is not sufficient — it must explicitly state "Non-Creamy Layer."
