Delhi is not just India's capital — it is a city-state with its own government, its own infrastructure needs, and its own recruitment body. DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board) has announced 911 posts covering Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, Assistant Section Officers, and Legal Assistants across Delhi government departments. For engineers, law graduates, and administrative aspirants, this recruitment offers something that no other state can match — a guaranteed posting in Delhi with no transfers outside the capital.
The Posts and Who They Are For
Assistant Engineers (AE) and Junior Engineers (JE) are recruited for PWD Delhi, DJB (Delhi Jal Board), DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board), and MCD. AEs require a B.Tech/B.E degree, JEs accept a 3-year engineering diploma. They oversee construction and maintenance of Delhi's roads, bridges, water supply, sewage systems, and public buildings. ASOs (Assistant Section Officers) handle administrative work in Delhi government secretariat — file processing, policy drafting, inter-departmental coordination. Legal Assistants work in the legal departments of Delhi government bodies — drafting legal opinions, managing court cases, liaising with government advocates.
Salary with Delhi Allowances
AEs at Pay Level 7-8 (Rs 44,900-47,600 basic). JEs at Pay Level 6 (Rs 35,400). ASOs at Pay Level 6-7. Legal Assistants at Pay Level 6-7. Delhi's HRA at 30% of basic, combined with the highest DA rates, means in-hand salaries are among the best for these posts anywhere in India. An AE in Delhi takes home approximately Rs 60,000-75,000, a JE approximately Rs 50,000-60,000. All Delhi government benefits — NPS, medical, transport allowance — apply.
Selection Process
DSSSB conducts computer-based examinations (Tier 1 and sometimes Tier 2) with subject-specific questions for each post. Engineering posts test technical subjects (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical engineering), ASO tests general awareness and English, Legal Assistant tests legal knowledge and reasoning. DSSSB exams are known for their relatively straightforward question pattern compared to SSC or UPSC — focused preparation on core subjects yields good results.
