UPSSSC Technical Assistant (Agriculture) 2026 — Is This Job Right for You?

UPSSSC has announced 2,759 Technical Assistant (Agriculture) Group C posts under Advt No. 06-Exam/2026. This is one of the largest agriculture-sector government recruitments in Uttar Pradesh in 2026. If you hold a B.Sc Agriculture, Horticulture, Home Science, Computer Science, Forestry degree or B.Tech Agriculture Engineering and have a valid UPSSSC PET 2025 scorecard — this is your direct entry into a state government job with postings in your home state.

What Does a Technical Assistant (Agriculture) Actually Do?

Technical Assistants in the UP Agriculture Department work at block and district level, supporting farmers with technical guidance on crop management, fertilizer use, irrigation scheduling, and pest control. The work is field-based — you will visit farms, conduct surveys, and report to senior agricultural officers. If you enjoy outdoor work and have genuine interest in agriculture science, this role matches well. It is not a desk job.

Posting is typically in rural and semi-urban areas of Uttar Pradesh. Most Technical Assistants are posted in their home district or nearby districts — a significant advantage over central government jobs where postings can be anywhere in India. For candidates from UP, this means working close to home with a government salary and job security.

Salary — What You Will Actually Receive In Hand

UPSSSC Technical Assistant Group C falls under Pay Level 5 of the 7th Pay Commission, with a basic pay of Rs.29,200 per month. After adding Dearness Allowance (currently 55%), House Rent Allowance, and transport allowance — and subtracting NPS and insurance deductions — the in-hand salary works out to approximately Rs.40,000 to Rs.48,000 per month depending on your posting location. For an agriculture graduate in UP, this is significantly higher than most private agri-sector roles where fresh graduates earn Rs.12,000-18,000.

Why the PET Score Card Matters

UPSSSC made PET (Preliminary Eligibility Test) mandatory for all Group B and C recruitments from 2021 onwards. Without a valid PET 2025 scorecard, you cannot apply for this Technical Assistant recruitment — regardless of your educational qualification. If you have appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 and have your scorecard, you are eligible to apply. The PET score itself does not contribute to the final merit — it is purely a qualifying gateway. Merit is decided entirely by the Mains examination marks.

If you missed PET 2025, you will need to wait for the next PET cycle before applying to UPSSSC Group C recruitments. This is a common eligibility gap that catches many candidates off guard.

Application Fee — Rs.25 for All Categories

One of the most candidate-friendly aspects of this recruitment is the application fee — just Rs.25 for all categories including General, OBC, SC, ST, and Female candidates. This removes the financial barrier that prevents many deserving candidates from applying to multiple recruitments. Pay via SBI I Collect or E-Challan before the 22 May 2026 deadline. At Rs.25, there is genuinely no reason not to apply if you meet the eligibility criteria.

How to Prepare for the Mains Exam

The UPSSSC Technical Assistant Mains examination focuses on Agriculture Science subjects relevant to the post. Key areas to prepare include: Agronomy and crop production, Soil science and soil fertility management, Plant protection and pest management, Horticulture and vegetable production, Agricultural economics and marketing, and Government schemes related to agriculture (PM-KISAN, Kisan Credit Card, MSP policy, Soil Health Card scheme).

Candidates with B.Sc Agriculture background will find the syllabus closely aligned with their degree curriculum. B.Tech Agriculture Engineering candidates should focus additionally on farm machinery and irrigation engineering topics. Previous UPSSSC Agriculture exams are the best practice resource — question patterns tend to repeat across recruitment cycles. Focus on practical application-based questions rather than purely theoretical ones.

Career Growth After Selection

Technical Assistant is a Group C entry-level post. After 5-7 years of service, candidates become eligible for promotion to Agriculture Extension Officer (Group B) through departmental examination. The UP Agriculture Department has a structured promotion ladder: Technical Assistant → Extension Officer → District Agriculture Officer → Joint Director. Promotions are merit and seniority based, with departmental exams conducted periodically. Even without promotion, MACP ensures financial upgradation every 10 years of service.

Document Checklist Before You Apply

Keep these documents ready before 24 April when applications open: B.Sc/B.Tech Agriculture marksheets (all semesters), UPSSSC PET 2025 scorecard, Domicile certificate (Uttar Pradesh), Category certificate if applicable (OBC/SC/ST — must be UP government issued), Aadhaar card, passport size photograph with white background, and valid signature scan. Missing or incorrect documents at the application stage or document verification stage are the most common reason for rejection — verify everything before submitting.
