About the Anganwadi Worker Role
Anganwadi Workers are the frontline of India's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme. Each worker is responsible for one Anganwadi centre, typically serving 40–80 children aged 0–6 years and pregnant/lactating mothers in the local area. Day-to-day work includes:
- Running the Anganwadi centre for 5 hours daily (nutrition programme, pre-school education)
- Distributing supplementary nutrition (Take-Home Ration, hot cooked meals)
- Maintaining growth monitoring records for children under 5
- Conducting home visits and community health awareness sessions
- Coordinating with health workers for immunisation and antenatal care
- Completing government digital records (Poshan Tracker app)
The Anganwadi Helper (Sahayika) assists the Worker in all centre activities. The Mini Anganwadi Worker handles a smaller sub-centre with reduced caseload. This is a contractual/honorary position — not a permanent government service job. However, Workers get medical benefits, annual increments in honorarium, and retirement benefits under state government schemes.

No written exam and no interview. Selection is purely merit-based on your 12th class (Intermediate) marks percentage. Widows and BPL family women may get priority in some districts.
Q: What is the application fee?
Zero. There is no application fee for any category. The application is completely free at upanganwadibharti.in.
Q: Is Anganwadi Worker a permanent government job?
