UPSC CDS II 2026 — 451 Posts, Apply by 9 June
UPSC has notified 451 vacancies for the Combined Defence Services Examination (II) 2026. The exam covers four prestigious defence academies — the Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy. The written exam is on 13 September 2026. Last date to apply online is 9 June 2026 at upsconline.nic.in.
Eligibility — Academy-wise
The eligibility differs by academy. For IMA and OTA, any graduate can apply. For the Naval Academy, a B.E./B.Tech degree is required. For the Air Force Academy, a Bachelor's degree with Physics and Mathematics at Class 12 level is needed. Age must be between 20 and 24 years as of 01 July 2027. Female candidates can apply for OTA (SSC Women entries).
Exam Pattern & Selection
The CDS written exam tests English (100 marks), General Knowledge (100 marks), and Elementary Mathematics (100 marks) — except for OTA where Maths is not tested. Shortlisted candidates appear for the SSB Interview (300 marks for IMA/INA/AFA, 200 marks for OTA). Final selection is on combined merit of written exam and SSB interview.
Pay & Career
Commissioned Officers start at ₹56,100/month (Pay Level 10, 7th CPC) plus Military Service Pay, DA, HRA, and other allowances. The total package including all allowances is significantly higher.
