UPSSSC has opened 115 government job vacancies with UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) — one of the most important environmental regulatory bodies in India. Advertisement No. 02-Exam/2026 covers 8 different post types across science, engineering, law, and accounts. The last date is 29 April 2026 — applications are open right now.
What Is UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB)?
The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), also known as UP Environment Control Board, is a statutory body under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. It operates under the UP Environment department and is responsible for:
- Monitoring air, water, and soil pollution across Uttar Pradesh
- Issuing "No Objection Certificates" (NOCs) to industries setting up in UP
- Enforcing environmental compliance standards for factories, power plants, and construction projects
- Running environmental labs to test samples from rivers, industrial areas, and air quality stations
- Implementing the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders in Uttar Pradesh
As a UPPCB employee, your work directly impacts the health and environment of crores of UP residents. It's a purposeful, field + lab hybrid job — not a routine desk posting.
Post-Wise Work Profile
Monitoring Assistant (35 posts — largest segment): On-ground pollution monitoring work. You visit industrial sites, sampling stations, rivers, and urban pollution hotspots to collect samples and data. Regular fieldwork is involved. This is an active, outdoors-oriented role. Experience with environmental monitoring equipment is an advantage.
Junior Engineer / JE (Special) (37 posts combined): Technical inspection and compliance role. You inspect industrial units to check if their effluent treatment plants (ETPs) and air pollution control devices meet prescribed norms. You also handle civil/mechanical/electrical maintenance at UPPCB facilities. An engineering background in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering is needed.
Scientific Assistant / Scientific Asst (Special) (15 posts combined): Lab-based testing and analysis. You perform chemical, biological, and physical analysis of water, air, and soil samples in UPPCB's regional laboratories. Work involves handling analytical instruments, maintaining lab records, and preparing test reports. A science degree (Chemistry/Biology/Environmental Science) is the base qualification.
Accountant / Auditor (22 posts): Finance and audit functions within UPPCB — managing budgets, auditing departmental accounts, maintaining financial records, preparing expenditure statements, and assisting the finance department. A commerce background (B.Com) is required.
Law Assistant (4 posts): Legal support to UPPCB — handling court matters, preparing legal notices to industries violating pollution norms, NGT case management, and advising on compliance issues. LLB is mandatory.
Laboratory Assistant (2 posts): Lab support role — assisting Scientific Assistants with sample preparation, equipment calibration, and routine lab tasks. A 10+2 Science background qualifies.
Why This Recruitment Is Worth Applying For
Working at UPPCB offers several advantages beyond the basic salary:
- Permanent state government job — full NPS pension, DA revisions, LTC, medical facilities
- Diverse work — field visits, lab analysis, legal compliance, and project work — far more varied than most routine state govt. posts
- Growing sector — environmental enforcement is being strengthened significantly under NGT pressure; UPPCB staff are in increasing demand
- Urban postings — UPPCB regional offices are in major UP cities (Lucknow, Kanpur, Noida, Varanasi, Agra) — better quality of life than remote district postings
- Only ₹25 fee — among the cheapest recruitment applications in any government sector

- Technical posts (Scientific Asst, JE): Expect subject-specific questions from your graduation syllabus (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or relevant engineering subjects) alongside general studies
- Non-technical posts (Accountant, Law Asst, Monitoring Asst): General studies, UP GK, reasoning, and Hindi language are the focus areas
- UP GK is always important — UPSSSC consistently weights UP-specific knowledge heavily in every exam
- Last date is 29 April 2026 — apply first, prepare for the written exam which will be announced later with sufficient time
