NHIDCL — National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited — is a wholly owned Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Unlike NHAI which handles highways across mainstream India, NHIDCL works specifically in India's most strategically sensitive and difficult terrains: the Northeast states (Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Assam), Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Building roads here is not straightforward construction work — it involves harsh climatic conditions, seismic zones, international border sensitivity, and terrain challenges that test engineers constantly. The 85 Deputy Manager (Technical) posts being recruited now are the engineers who will lead this work on the ground.
The selection process is the cleanest you'll find in any PSU this year: GATE score in Civil Engineering — and nothing else. No separate CBT, no group discussion, no personality interview. If you have a valid GATE CE score from 2024, 2025, or 2026, your application is ranked directly. This makes NHIDCL particularly valuable for fresh B.Tech Civil graduates who cleared GATE but didn't make it to IITs/NITs or top PSUs in earlier cycles.

Pay, Perks & Service Bond
The E2 pay scale at NHIDCL is an IDA (Industrial Dearness Allowance) scale, which means your take-home includes Basic + DA (revised quarterly based on AICTE index) + HRA + other allowances. At current DA rates, an E2 officer's in-hand salary works out to approximately ₹75,000–85,000/month including all components. The final CTC is higher once employer's PF contribution, gratuity, and medical benefits are added.
Important — Service Bond: Before joining NHIDCL you must sign a service bond of ₹5,00,000. This means if you leave NHIDCL before completing 2 years of service, you pay ₹5 lakh back to the organization. This is standard practice for many PSUs that invest in training fresh engineers for specialized terrains. Factor this in if you're simultaneously targeting UPSC or other exams with a potential joining date overlap.
Selection Process
NHIDCL does not conduct any separate exam or interview. The entire merit list is built on your GATE Civil Engineering score:
- Your best valid GATE CE score from 2024, 2025, or 2026 is taken
- Candidates are ranked in descending order of GATE score
- Tie-breaking rule: older candidate gets preference; if still tied, alphabetical order of first name
- Shortlisted candidates called for document verification and medical examination
