But before you assume you're eligible and fill the form, there are category-specific age relaxation rules, domicile conditions, and a few less-obvious requirements that trip up applicants every year. This article covers all of them.

Educational Qualification — What Counts and What Doesn't
The requirement is Class 10th (High School) passed from any recognised board. This is deliberately broad and includes:
- CBSE, ICSE — fully valid
- All state boards (MP Board, UP Board, Rajasthan Board, etc.) — valid
- National Open School (NIOS) 10th — valid (recognised by Ministry of Education)
- Private school 10th with board affiliation — valid
- Madarsa Board 10th (if state-government recognised) — valid in most cases; check state notification
- ITI (2-year) — passes the 10th bar, but original 10th certificate still required
What does NOT qualify:
- Compartment/supplementary pass — you need the main pass certificate, not a compartment one
- Failed Class 10 with ITI completion — ITI does not substitute for 10th pass certification alone
- Online/unrecognised board certificates — must be UGC/CBSE/state board recognised
There is no minimum percentage required — just a pass. Students who passed with low marks are fully eligible.
Age Limit — Detailed Breakdown
| Category | Minimum Age | Maximum Age | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|
| General (Unreserved) | 18 years | 40 years | No relaxation |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 18 years | 43 years | +3 years |
| SC (Madhya Pradesh) | 18 years | 45 years | +5 years |
| ST (Madhya Pradesh) | 18 years | 45 years | +5 years |
| PwBD (General) | 18 years | 50 years | +10 years |
| PwBD + OBC | 18 years | 53 years | +13 years |
| PwBD + SC/ST | 18 years | 55 years | +15 years |
| Government Employee (MP) | 18 years | 45 years | +5 years |
| Ex-Serviceman | As per MP rules | 45–50 years | Per military service |
Critical point: Age is calculated as on 01 January 2026. If you turn 41 on 02 January 2026, you are still eligible for the General category (you were 40 as on 01 Jan). If you turn 41 before 01 January 2026, you are over-aged for General but may qualify under OBC/SC/ST relaxation.

Domicile / Residency Rules
This is the most misunderstood part of MPESB eligibility. The rules work as follows:
- General (Unreserved) category: Candidates from all states can apply. You do not need MP domicile for an unreserved seat.
- OBC category: You must hold MP OBC certificate (MP OBC list). An OBC certificate from another state does NOT qualify for the MP OBC reservation.
- SC / ST category: You must hold MP SC/ST certificate. Out-of-state SC/ST certificates are NOT valid for MP SC/ST reservation benefits.
- EWS category: MP EWS certificate required.
In practice: if you are from UP, Rajasthan, Bihar or any other state but belong to OBC/SC/ST, you can apply only in the General (unreserved) category — you will not get the reserved seat or age relaxation unless you have an MP domicile + MP caste certificate.
Other Conditions
| Condition | Details |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Must be Indian citizen. NRI/OCI status requires individual case verification |
| Criminal Record | No conviction for an offence involving moral turpitude. Pending FIRs may require declaration |
| Medical Fitness | Must be free from physical/mental disability that affects job performance. Medical exam before joining |
| Previous Government Employment | If dismissed from any government job, may be ineligible — check notification |
| Marital Status | No restriction. Married candidates eligible |
| One Spouse Rule | If you have more than one living spouse, you may be ineligible — standard MP service rule |
