RPSC RAS 2026 has one of the broadest eligibility criteria among competitive exams in India. Any graduate can apply — engineering, arts, science, commerce, law — it doesn't matter. If you're 21–40 years old with a degree, you're eligible. This article covers every eligibility rule, age relaxation table, and common questions about borderline cases.

RPSC RAS Pre 2026 last date: 3 July 2026. Apply via SSO Rajasthan. Check official notification →

Educational Qualification

RequirementDetails
Minimum QualificationGraduation (Bachelor's degree) from a recognized university
Specific Stream RequiredNo — Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Law, any stream qualifies
Final Year StudentsStudents who have appeared in the final year examination and are awaiting results can also apply — subject to producing the degree at the time of document verification
Distance EducationDegrees from UGC-recognized open/distance universities are accepted
Foreign DegreesDegree must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

This is the most inclusive eligibility in Rajasthan state services. Unlike some state service exams that require specific streams or subjects, RAS accepts any graduation.

⚠️ Age Verification
Age relaxation for OBC/SC/ST/EWS applies only to Rajasthan domicile candidates. If you are OBC from another state (central list), check whether Rajasthan recognizes your category — this is a common point of confusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can a candidate with a distance education degree apply for RPSC RAS?

Yes, if the degree is from a UGC-recognized open or distance learning institution (like IGNOU, state open universities). The degree must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

Q: Can engineering graduates apply for RPSC RAS civil service posts?

Yes. B.Tech/B.E. degree fully satisfies the graduation requirement for all civil service posts in RPSC RAS. Engineering graduates commonly clear RAS and are posted as SDM, Tehsildar, BDO.

Q: Is there a minimum percentage required in graduation?

No minimum percentage is required for most posts in RPSC RAS. The notification simply states "graduation from a recognized university" without a percentage threshold.

Q: Can final year students who haven't received their result yet apply?

Typically yes — candidates who have appeared in the final year exam and are awaiting results can apply. They must produce the degree/provisional certificate at document verification time. Always verify this from the official notification.

Q: What is the age relaxation for OBC candidates from outside Rajasthan?

Age relaxation is for Rajasthan domicile OBC candidates only. If you belong to OBC in another state but not Rajasthan, you may be treated as General category for Rajasthan state services. Verify from the official notification.

Q: Is there an attempt limit for RPSC RAS?

RPSC RAS does not specify a formal attempt limit — you can apply as long as you are within the age limit. This is different from UPSC, which has a 6-attempt limit for General category.

Step-by-Step Application Process

RPSC RAS 2026 applications are submitted through the SSO (Single Sign-On) Rajasthan portal. Here's the complete process:

StepActionLink / Platform
Step 1Create SSO ID if you don't have one — sso.rajasthan.gov.inSSO Rajasthan Portal
Step 2Login to SSO → Citizen Services → RPSCsso.rajasthan.gov.in
Step 3Fill the online application form — personal details, education, categoryRPSC Application Portal
Step 4Upload photo (JPG, 20–100 KB) and signature (JPG, 10–50 KB)Within application form
Step 5Pay fee online (Net Banking/Debit Card/UPI) or via E-Mitra kioskWithin application or E-Mitra
Step 6Submit and note your application numberPrint the confirmation receipt

The last date for both application submission AND fee payment is 3 July 2026. Don't wait for the last day — SSO portals get congested near deadlines. Apply by 28 June 2026 to be safe.

⚠️ Critical
If you pay fee via E-Mitra (cash), ensure the E-Mitra operator gives you a printed receipt with transaction ID. Fee paid but not reflecting in RPSC system is a common issue near deadlines — always keep the receipt.

Category-Wise Reservation — Post Distribution

Out of 607 total posts, here's the approximate category-wise reservation breakdown as per Rajasthan government reservation policy:

CategoryReservation %Approx Posts (of 607)
Unreserved / General (UR)50%~304
Other Backward Classes (OBC — Rajasthan)21%~127
Scheduled Castes (SC — Rajasthan)16%~97
Scheduled Tribes (ST — Rajasthan)12%~73
EWS (Economically Weaker Section)10% (within UR)~60

Note: EWS reservation (10%) is carved out from the unreserved seats. Rajasthan follows a 50% total reservation policy. Exact distribution per post category is in the official notification — the above is an approximate based on standard Rajasthan policy. Verify from the RPSC notification.

Attempts and Previous Appearances

RPSC RAS does not impose an attempt limit. This is a significant advantage over UPSC Civil Services (which has a 6-attempt limit for General category, 9 for OBC, unlimited for SC/ST within age). As long as you're within the age limit, you can appear any number of times.

That said, practically speaking, the preparation time per attempt should be treated seriously. Most successful RAS candidates clear the exam within 2–3 serious attempts, with each attempt building on the previous year's preparation.

Can You Apply for Both RAS and RSSB Simultaneously?

Yes — you can appear for RPSC RAS (State Services) and RSSB (Rajasthan Staff Selection Board) exams simultaneously. There is no bar on applying to multiple state government exams at the same time. Many candidates appear for RSSB sub-inspector, patwar, or teacher recruitment simultaneously while preparing for RAS. The RSSB exams also test Rajasthan GK, making the preparation overlap beneficial.

Detailed Category Rules — Who Gets What Benefit

The category rules for RPSC RAS are sometimes misunderstood. Here's a clear breakdown of exactly who gets which benefit:

OBC candidates: Must hold an OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate from Rajasthan. If your family's annual income from non-government sources exceeds ₹8 lakh (central creamy layer limit — Rajasthan may have its own limit; verify from notification), you fall in the creamy layer and are treated as General category. OBC certificate from other states doesn't apply for state service reservation.

SC/ST candidates: No creamy layer concept — all SC/ST candidates get the full category benefit regardless of income. Age relaxation (+5 years), application fee concession (₹400), and reserved posts all apply. SC/ST certificate must be from Rajasthan for state services reservation.

EWS candidates: The EWS (Economically Weaker Section) certificate is for General category candidates whose family income is below ₹8 lakh per year and who don't own specified assets. EWS gets 10% reservation carved from the UR quota. Certificate validity is typically one year — ensure yours is current.

Ex-Servicemen: The Rajasthan government has a separate horizontal reservation for ex-servicemen. Age relaxation is available as per Rajasthan Ex-SM rules — typically period of service + 3 years (over and above standard age limit). This is horizontal, not vertical reservation — ex-SM candidates also fall within their respective categories (UR/OBC/SC/ST).

Can You Change Category After Applying?

Generally, no. Once you submit your application with a category, changing it is not possible. If you apply as General and later realize your OBC certificate is valid, you cannot switch. Always confirm your category certificate is valid and current before applying. If your OBC NCL certificate is near expiry, get it renewed before the application date.

Women Candidates — Specific Rules

Rajasthan has horizontal reservation for women in state government posts. Typically, 30% of posts in each category are reserved for women. This means within the General UR quota of ~304 posts, approximately 91 posts are reserved for UR women. Within OBC (~127 posts), approximately 38 posts are for OBC women, and so on.

If insufficient women candidates qualify for a reserved post, the post goes to men of the same category — it doesn't get transferred to other categories. Women candidates should verify the exact horizontal reservation percentage from the official RPSC RAS 2026 notification.

Physical Fitness — Is There Any Test?

For most RAS posts (SDM, Tehsildar, BDO, revenue service), there is no physical fitness test. The selection is entirely based on written examination and interview. Physical fitness standards apply only to posts allocated to the police cadre (DSP) — where height, chest, and eye vision standards apply as per Rajasthan Police Rules.

If you're medically fit for normal office work (no physical limitations that prevent administrative duties), you qualify for all civil service RAS posts. The medical examination at the appointment stage checks for general fitness — not athletic ability.

Candidates Appearing in Final Year — The Exact Rule

If your graduation result was not declared when you applied but was declared later (before document verification at the time of appointment), you still qualify. The key condition: you must have successfully completed the degree by the time you submit documents. A provisional certificate issued by your university is accepted in place of the final degree certificate. If you pass the exam but fail your final year, your selection gets cancelled — so this provision is only meaningful if your degree completion is certain.

हाँ, अगर degree UGC-recognized open या distance learning institution (IGNOU, state open universities) से है।

Q: Final year student (result pending) apply

Rajasthan state services में age relaxation और reservation benefit Rajasthan domicile OBC candidates के लिए है।

Previous Appearances

State government exams simultaneously apply

Government Job During RAS Preparation —

Situation
Rajasthan state government employeeSame — NOC required for joining.

दूसरे states का OBC certificate Rajasthan state services reservation के लिए apply नहीं होता।

EWS candidates: General category candidates जिनकी family income ₹8 lakh/year से कम है और specified assets नहीं हैं।

Age relaxation service period + 3 years (standard age limit से ऊपर) — Rajasthan Ex-SM rules के अनुसार verify करें।

Specific Rules

Rajasthan में state government posts में women के लिए horizontal reservation है।

Official RPSC RAS 2026 notification से exact horizontal reservation percentage verify करें।

Physical Fitness Test

Selection entirely written exam और interview पर based है।

Normal office work के लिए medically fit हैं (कोई physical limitation नहीं जो administrative duties prevent करे) तो सभी civil service RAS posts के लिए qualify करते हैं।

Final Year Students — Exact Rule

RPSC RAS 2026 apply करने के लिए SSO (Single Sign-On) ID जरूरी है।

sso.rajasthan.gov.in पर जाएं। "Register" पर click करें। Bhamashah card (now Jan Aadhaar), Aadhar card,

Scanned image। File size 10–50 KB।

Date of Birth: 10th certificate

Exam day पर admit card + एक photo ID (Aadhar, Driving License, Voter ID) साथ लाएं।
