Bihar is India's fourth-largest milk producing state, and the dairy sector employs millions of rural families who depend on cattle for their livelihood. Yet the infrastructure that supports these dairy farmers — milk collection centres, chilling plants, quality testing labs, and cooperative networks — needs trained professionals to function. Bihar Technical Service Commission is recruiting 68 Dairy Field Officers and Dairy Technical Officers, roles that connect the laboratory to the farmyard in Bihar's growing dairy ecosystem.
The Role — From Farm to Factory
Dairy Field Officers work in the field — visiting milk collection centres in villages, testing milk samples for fat content and adulteration, training farmers on cattle nutrition and clean milk production practices, and liaising between dairy cooperatives and the state dairy federation. You carry testing equipment, conduct awareness camps, and ensure that the milk entering the supply chain meets quality standards. Dairy Technical Officers work at processing plants and laboratories — pasteurization monitoring, quality control testing, product development (ghee, paneer, dahi, flavoured milk), and equipment maintenance.
Salary
Pay Level 5-7 (Rs 29,200-44,900 basic). With Bihar allowances, starting in-hand approximately Rs 36,000-55,000 depending on the specific post. Standard Bihar government benefits — NPS, medical, LTC. Field allowance for village visits. Posted across Bihar's districts, particularly in the high milk production belts of North Bihar.
Eligibility
BSc in Dairy Technology, Dairy Science, Animal Husbandry, or Veterinary Science from a recognized university. Some posts may accept a diploma in Dairy Technology. Selection through BTSC written examination covering dairy science, dairy technology, dairy microbiology, dairy chemistry, dairy engineering, and general knowledge. Practical experience in dairy operations is advantageous but not mandatory.
Career in Bihar's Dairy Sector
India is the world's largest milk producer, and Bihar's dairy sector is expanding with government support through schemes like the National Dairy Plan and Rashtriya Gokul Mission. From Dairy Field Officer, career growth leads to Senior Dairy Officer, Deputy Director (Dairy), and Director of Dairy Development. Some officers are deputed to NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) and state dairy cooperatives. With only 68 posts, this is a specialized recruitment for a growing sector.
