Computer Science education in India is experiencing a paradox — while the country produces millions of IT professionals, government schools often lack qualified teachers to teach the subject at the senior secondary level. Haryana PSC is addressing this gap with a massive recruitment of 1,672 Post Graduate Teachers in Computer Science for government schools across the state. For MSc/MCA/B.Tech CS graduates with B.Ed, this is one of the largest subject-specific PGT recruitments any Indian state has conducted.
What a PGT Computer Science Does
You teach Computer Science to Classes 11 and 12 — the senior secondary level where students choose Computer Science as an elective subject. The syllabus covers Python programming, database management with SQL, data structures, computer networks, Boolean algebra, and emerging technologies. Unlike theoretical subjects, CS teaching is inherently practical — you conduct lab sessions where students write and debug code, design databases, and build small projects. A good CS PGT makes the difference between students who merely pass the board exam and students who develop genuine programming ability.
Haryana's government schools are increasingly equipped with computer labs, and the state's proximity to the NCR IT corridor means student interest in computer science is high. You also mentor students for competitive programming, guide them toward CS-related career paths, and sometimes handle the school's IT infrastructure and digital initiatives.
Salary — Haryana's Generous Scale
PGTs in Haryana are placed at Pay Level 8 (Rs 47,600 basic). Haryana pays among the highest state government salaries in India. With DA, HRA, and other allowances, the starting in-hand salary for a PGT is approximately Rs 60,000-75,000. This is comparable to entry-level IT industry salaries in many cities, but with the added benefits of government job security, pension, long vacations, and no late-night debugging sessions. Over a career, PGTs reach Pay Level 10-11, earning Rs 1,00,000+ per month.
Eligibility
MSc Computer Science, MCA, M.Tech CS, or B.Tech/B.E Computer Science with a B.Ed degree from a recognized institution. NET qualification is preferred. HPSC conducts a written examination testing Computer Science at postgraduate level — expect questions on advanced programming, DBMS, OS, computer architecture, networking, and software engineering. The exam is demanding — HPSC expects genuine subject expertise, not general awareness.
Why 1,672 Posts Is Exceptional
Most PGT CS recruitments across India are for 50-200 posts. Haryana recruiting 1,672 at once means virtually every government senior secondary school in the state that offers CS will get a dedicated qualified teacher. For CS graduates who want to teach rather than code professionally, this is a once-in-a-career opportunity to enter teaching at a salary that respects your qualification.
