Madhya Pradesh is recruiting 1,679 Van Rakshak (Forest Guard) and Jail Prahari (Jail Warder) through MPESB — two physically demanding outdoor jobs that offer government security to 12th pass candidates who are fit and willing to work in challenging environments. Van Rakshak protects MP's vast forests, while Jail Prahari guards prisoners in MP's jails. Both are distinctly different careers united by one common requirement — physical toughness.
Van Rakshak — Protecting MP's Forests
MP has the largest forest cover among Indian states — from the teak forests of Chhindwara to the sal forests of Shahdol, from Kanha and Bandhavgarh tiger reserves to Satpura and Panna national parks. As a Van Rakshak, you patrol assigned forest beats, prevent illegal logging and poaching, report wildlife sightings, assist in fire management, check forest encroachment, and maintain relationships with forest-dwelling communities. The work is physically demanding — walking 10-15 km daily through forest terrain, sometimes in extreme weather. But for nature lovers, it is a career spent entirely outdoors in some of India's most beautiful landscapes.
Jail Prahari — Guarding MP's Prisons
Jail Praharis maintain security within MP's prisons. You conduct prisoner roll calls, supervise prison work details, prevent escapes and contraband smuggling, manage visitor entry, conduct body searches, and maintain discipline within the prison compound. The work requires constant alertness — you are responsible for preventing violence, monitoring prisoner behavior, and responding to emergencies. Prison posting can be psychologically demanding, but the structured shift system and government benefits provide stability.
Salary
Both posts at Pay Level 3-4 (Rs 21,700-25,500 basic). With MP DA and allowances, starting in-hand approximately Rs 28,000-35,000. Van Rakshak may receive remote posting allowance and forest duty allowance. Jail Prahari may receive risk allowance. Standard MP government benefits — NPS, medical, quarters where available.
