If you hold an NCC C certificate with a minimum B grade and have a graduation degree, the Indian Army is offering you something extraordinary — a direct entry as a commissioned officer without any written examination. The NCC Special Entry Scheme for the 124th Course (October 2026 batch) is recruiting 76 officers through Short Service Commission, and the only selection barrier is the SSB (Services Selection Board) interview. No UPSC exam, no CDS written test, no NDA entrance — just your NCC training record and your ability to prove your officer potential in the 5-day SSB process.
What Makes This Entry Unique
NCC Special Entry exists because the Army recognizes that NCC C certificate holders have already received substantial military training — weapons handling, field craft, map reading, drill, and leadership camps. You have demonstrated sustained interest in defence service through years of NCC participation. This entry skips the written exam that filters out millions in CDS because your NCC training has already demonstrated your baseline military aptitude.
You enter as a Lieutenant (Short Service Commission) and undergo 49 weeks of training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai. The training covers advanced military tactics, weapons systems, counter-insurgency operations, leadership development, and regimental traditions. Upon commissioning, you are assigned to a regiment or corps based on your training performance and service requirements.
Salary as an Army Officer
Lieutenants enter at Pay Level 10 (Rs 56,100 basic) plus Military Service Pay of Rs 15,500, DA, Kit Maintenance Allowance, and other components. Starting in-hand salary is approximately Rs 80,000-90,000 per month. Officers posted in field areas (J&K, Northeast, high-altitude) receive additional hardship, field area, and counter-insurgency allowances that can push monthly income above Rs 1,00,000. Government accommodation (or HRA), free medical for family, children's education allowance, and canteen facilities are additional benefits.
Eligibility
Graduation from a recognized university with NCC Senior Division/Wing C certificate with minimum B grade. Age 19-25 years. Only male candidates are eligible for this particular entry. After applying, shortlisted candidates are called for the 5-day SSB interview at one of the SSB centres. SSB tests intelligence, personality, group behaviour, and officer-like qualities through interviews, group discussions, group planning exercises, individual and group tasks, and psychological assessments.
Short Service Commission — 14 Years of Service
SSC officers serve for an initial period of 10 years, extendable by 4 years to a total of 14 years. After 10 years, you can apply for Permanent Commission to continue till retirement. Those who exit after 10-14 years receive a substantial severance package and their military experience opens doors in corporate security, management, and government sectors. With 76 posts, competition is limited to NCC C certificate holders — a much smaller pool than general CDS aspirants.
