The Indian Air Force has re-opened the application window for Agniveer Vayu Intake 01/2027 — a second chance for candidates who missed the original deadline or want to modify their application. The IAF Agniveer Vayu scheme recruits young men and women for a 4-year engagement in the Air Force, and with the re-opening, the IAF is signaling that it still needs to fill its intake targets. If you have a 12th pass with Science (Physics and Mathematics), this re-opened window is an opportunity you should not miss.
What Agniveer Vayu Means
Unlike Army Agniveers who serve in ground combat roles, IAF Agniveers work in highly technical environments. You could be maintaining fighter aircraft (Su-30MKI, Rafale, Tejas), servicing helicopter rotors, calibrating radar systems, managing air traffic communication equipment, or handling weapons loading and arming systems. The IAF's technical groups include Mechanical, Electronics, and Electrical trades. Non-technical groups handle accounting, logistics, medical assistance, and administrative support.
Training begins at the Airmen Training School, followed by trade-specific training at Technical Training Institutes across India — Tambaram, Belgaum, Agra, Jalahalli. The technical training you receive on military aircraft and systems is world-class and directly transferable to civilian aviation careers.
The Agniveer Package
Monthly package starts at Rs 30,000 (Year 1) and rises to Rs 40,000 (Year 4). 30% goes to Seva Nidhi — government matches this — approximately Rs 11.71 lakh at exit. Free food, accommodation, uniform, medical, and annual leave. IAF personnel posted at forward airbases receive additional field area allowances. Life insurance coverage of Rs 48 lakh.
Selection Process
Phase 1: Online exam covering English, Physics, Mathematics, and Reasoning. Phase 2: Physical Fitness Test (1.6 km run in 6:30 for men, other events), Adaptability Test (written psychological test), and medical examination. The online exam is the primary differentiator — expect Physics and Mathematics questions at 12th class level with a focus on applied concepts.
After Four Years
Top 25% are permanently absorbed into the IAF with regular pay scales and career progression to Corporal, Sergeant, and higher NCO ranks. Those who exit find strong demand in civilian aviation — airline ground crew, aircraft maintenance organizations (AMOs), airport operations, and aviation security. The IAF technical certificate is recognized by DGCA, making ex-Agniveers eligible for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licenses with additional training. The re-opened window means the IAF is actively seeking candidates — apply before this window closes too.
