Modern policing runs on data. Every FIR filed, every criminal record maintained, every crime mapped — it all flows through computer systems. Madhya Pradesh Police is recruiting 89 ASI and Head Constable (Computer) positions through MPESB, specifically for personnel who will manage the digital backbone of police operations. If you have computer/IT qualifications and want a police career that keeps you at a desk rather than on beat duty, this niche recruitment is designed for you.
The Role — Police IT Infrastructure
ASI/HC (Computer) officers manage the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) — the nationwide police database that connects every police station. You maintain the computerized FIR system, update criminal databases, manage the national fingerprint database interface, and ensure data backup and security. At district and range level, you handle video conferencing systems for court remands, CCTV surveillance monitoring, and IT troubleshooting for police stations under your jurisdiction.
This is not typical police work. You are in uniform but your weapon is a keyboard. Your expertise keeps the police communication network running, ensures court-ordered electronic surveillance is properly managed, and makes sure that when a constable at a remote police station enters an FIR into the system, it synchronizes correctly with the state and national databases.
Salary
HC (Computer) at Pay Level 4 (Rs 25,500-81,100), ASI (Computer) at Pay Level 5 (Rs 29,200-92,300). With MP state DA, HRA, and police allowances, starting take-home is Rs 32,000-42,000 depending on rank and posting. Standard police benefits including quarters, medical, uniform allowance, and pension/NPS apply.
Eligibility
Computer-related qualification is essential — BCA, B.Sc Computer Science, PGDCA, or equivalent diploma/degree in IT. Some posts may accept 12th plus relevant computer certification with experience. Physical standards are relaxed compared to operational police recruitment, but basic fitness requirements still apply. MPESB conducts a written examination testing computer knowledge (hardware, software, networking, database management, cybersecurity basics), general knowledge, Hindi, and reasoning.
Career in Police IT
HC (Computer) to ASI to SI (through promotion) — all within the IT wing. As police departments increasingly rely on technology, Computer cadre officers are becoming more valuable. Opportunities include managing cybercrime cells, handling digital forensics, and serving in the state-level police IT command centre. With only 89 posts across the state, this is a niche that values your technical skills within the security of a police career.
